Make A Difference

One of the key principles of Social Alchemy is to: “Be the difference that makes a difference“. We all have something that stirs our passion. Whatever that thing is, it is different for each every person. What drives you outside of your work?

Matt’s good friend from San Francisco, Tony Diefell founded Q Media Labs and started the project meme “WDYDWYD?” (Why Do You Do What You Do?). Tony once spoke with Matt about the concept of a passion project, and this struck a chord.

Read about a passion projects that drive Matt to make a difference reflecting his concern for addressing child mortality, and a more rigourous analysis of the role ethics in shaping entrepreneurial excellence.

Mother and child. The most important human bridge?

10 City Bridge Run
“Is the seemingly impossible possible?” This is the question being addressed while confronting how we can all make an impact on the appalling prevalence of child mortality. The intention is to build human bridges to help change the game and improve the lives of millions.

The 10 City Bridge Run is a global endurance challenge which will involve Matt running 10 sub-marathons each of 24 km in 10 cities across 10 countries all inside of one month. Building bridges by running across bridges. The 24 km is representative of the 24,000 children who die every day (based on 2008 figures).

The cities selected all form part of the narrative on extreme poverty: 1. New York 2. London 3. New Dehli 4. Banda Aceh 5. Dili 6. Sydney  7. Port Moresby 8. Shanghai 9. Fukushima 10. Seoul.

No running will start until 24,000 photos of human bridges have been collected. One photograph representing one of the 24,000 children under the age of five who die around the globe daily. The photographs will be used to create a pictorial petition to be presented to the leaders of the G20 through the Australian Prime Minister calling for measurable action which has a long term and lasting impact on child mortality as we draw closer to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals milestone of 2015.
